The M/S Stockholm is a classic vessel built in 1953 at a shipyard in Helsingborg for the Swedish National Maritime Administration. In 1999 she was totally refitted and started her career as a comfortable and ice-classed passenger ship. The Stockholm carries a maximum of 12 passengers in outside twin cabins, all with private facilities. She is a marvellous piece of maritime history with beautiful brass details and oregon pine decks and is loved by many. On board the Stockholm you enjoy delicious meals in the company of like-minded travellers who enjoy the natural world, and who are fascinated by the Polar Regions. The food on board is of a high standard and all wine, beer and drinks are included in the trip fare. With a party of 12 on board it is like travelling on a private yacht and it offers an entirely different experience and perspective to that of a larger and more conventional vessel. The M/S Stockholm is also ideal for private parties who wish to explore the Svalbard archipelago.
Captain Per Engwall is a true Svalbard veteran, with more than 20 years of experience as a skipper in Arctic waters. And he never gets tired of the Svalbard archipelago. ‘Its wildlife is unique and nature unspoilt. We can be out for ten days without seeing any other ships. That is hard to beat!` It is not just the passengers that are in awe of Svalbard`s spectacular nature and wildlife. The crew onboard M/S Stockholm are also big enthusiasts. No one is surprised to see the chef ashore to photograph or study birds, whenever time permits. Captain Per is also found ashore at times. One might think that he has seen his share of walrus and bird colonies, but Per thinks that the genuine interest of the crew is an important factor for a successful expedition. Every cruise has a preliminary plan, but one needs to stay flexible at all times. Every year and every trip, Per continues to chart the waters around Svalbard. He loves the feeling of being somewhat of a pioneer, following in the wake of the unpredictable. |
