Operation Manager PolarQuest
Anything is possible! With this deep belief PolarQuest was established in 1999 and today we are the Swedish leader in Polar travel and have a unique product in Svalbard that is known worldwide.
Our main product is expedition cruises with small ships in Svalbard, but also included in the PolarQuest portfolio are trips to Antarctica, South Georgia, Greenland and other destinations with a focus on wildlife and nature. Our office team consists of ten polar co-workers bitten by the polar bug and with extensive experience from the travel industry and the polar regions. We have 35-50 polar expedition guides working with us each season and their commitment to the PolarQuest product is outstanding. PolarQuest is owned by Unlimited Travel Group that is the leading group of specialist tour operators in Sweden.
PolarQuest is now expanding the team to include an Operation Manager. This is a unique chance to be part of a great team and a quality expedition brand with a lot of potential for the future.
In the position as Operation Manager you will function as the coordinator for our ship’s gear and logistics, primarily for our Svalbard season but also for other destinations when needed. You will also be maintaining and developing our Standard Operating Procedures and within this framework suggest and develop training for Expedition Staff etc. In this key position we have high expectations on both professionalism and personal qualities. We want to see that you have relevant and “in depth” experience and knowledge of expedition cruising in Svalbard and Antarctica. It is an advantage if you have worked as a guide in these regions and know the industry from that perspective. If you are keen to be one step ahead and are interested in the challenge of being a leader in a constantly evolving industry, you would be a great candidate for this position. Under AECO and IAATO guidelines you will be helping us develop our procedures with a focus on safety, quality and client service. In addition, it is an advantage if you have worked with project leading and that you have good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
Even if the work in many ways is independent in its nature, you will also be working in a team where the willingness to cooperate and administrational skills are the key to success. We want to see that you are a quick learner, dedicated, with a sharp attention to detail and always willing to put our guests and clients first.
PolarQuest is a small company where flexibility and a “hands on” mentality are key ingredients to succeed. An average day at work could mean everything from planning long-term updates of our ships, packing guide gear, developing guidelines or speaking about our ships with an agent or charterer. As the successful applicant, working in goal oriented team environment will stimulate you.
You agree that satisfied guests’ and an ethical consideration of the natural world are important building blocks of a high-quality product.
The position is part time with variable hours throughout the year and includes travel time, especially in connection to the startup of the ship season. It can also be combined with field work on board our ships.
