Henrik Tornberg Guide and Expedition Leader
Henrik became part of PolarQuest in 2018 as our Operation Manager. He works "behind the scenes" with security and logistics for our guests and guides. But the polar bug still has a firm grip on him, and he guides several trips every year to experience the polar regions.
After a few years in the Swedish mountains, Henrik moved up to Svalbard in 1998, where he studied arctic geosciences at the university, worked as a guide and was also active as an operational leader for the voluntary rescue service in the Red cross. Henrik guided ski expeditions, scooter trips, hiking, kayaking trips and dog sled tours and became very familiar with Svalbard and the Arctic nature during all different seasons.
In 2004, Henrik changed base camp from Svalbard to Tarfala glacier research station at the foot of Kebnekaise in Swedish Lapland. There he lived for 5 months a year, 2.5 Swedish miles into roadless terrain at 1100 meters altitude and led the field program for glacier research and the operation of the station. In 2011, it was time for new challenges, and Henrik started to work as research engineer at the Swedish polar research secretariat, where he was responsible for the Swedish research stations Wasa and Svea in Antarctica. He organized, participated and led research expeditions both in the Arctic and in the Antarctic during this time.
