Johan Carlsson Tjernström Guide
Johan began his career as a guide on board M/S Stockholm in 2019, and since 2022, he has spent most of his summers in Svalbard. Between the seasons in Svalbard and Antarctica, he has devoted himself to studying history, and his interest in the rich history of these harsh climates has been a major driving force in his guiding.
Johan's fascination with history can only be matched by his interest in nature photography, a hobby that recently got him published by BBC Earth.
Johan is now studying medicine at Lund University, and he travels north as soon as his studies allow. The dream of Svalbard has been evident ever since he was a child, when his grandfather came home and showed pictures from his travels. Even then, the choice became clear for Johan; he would follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and pursue a career as a polar guide.
