Information about the ship M/S Stockholm

The M/S Stockholm was built in 1953 at the Helsingborg shipyard for the Swedish National Maritime Administration. In 1998 she started her career as a passenger ship and has been exploring the Arctic waters of Svalbard every summer since. The Swedish crew of seven is led by a Swedish Captain.

ON BOARD INFORMATION


BAR SERVICE

The small bar is located in the lounge and carries a selection of wine, spirits, beer and soft drinks. Coffee and tea are available around the clock. All beverages are included in the price.

BRIDGE VISITS
There is an open bridge policy on board and passengers are welcome to visit the bridge at all times. We ask you to pay respect to the Captain’s orders, especially during difficult ice navigation and when mooring.

CABINS
There are six passenger cabins on board. They are all outside cabins with portholes and all have private WC and shower. Each cabin has a fitted wardrobe with hangers, a bunk bed, a mirror and a bookshelf. Hairdryers are found onboard, shareable between cabins.

COMMUNICATIONS
The ship can be contacted on Iridium Satellite Phone. You will receive contact information for the ship together with your final information. Please note: There is no Internet access on board, and you will have no reception on your mobile phone during most parts of the expedition.

DRESS CODE
Since we are embarking on an expedition cruise, the dress code on board is informal. Please wear sturdy shoes with non-slip soles when moving around the ship.

LANGUAGE

The information on board will be in Swedish and English (unless otherwise agreed or marketed or informed). The crew speaks Swedish and English.

MEALS
The dining room/mess seats all 12 passengers at once. Our chef will serve you three meals a day. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style and dinner will be served at the table.

MEDICAL
There is no physician on board. The officers on the bridge have basic medical training. Basic medical supplies are available on board. Passengers under regular treatment or requiring medication shall bring quantities that last throughout the expedition. Please also bring a written description of your medication.

ELECTRICITY
All electrical outlets on board are 220 volts and Scandinavian two-prong plugs. We recommend that you bring an international adapter if you have devices that need to charge. There are outlets in all cabins. 

LAUNDRY
There is no laundry service on board.

LOUNGE
Briefings and lectures will be held in the lounge.

OPEN-DOOR POLICY
There is an open door policy on board the M/S Stockholm and no keys are distributed for the cabins.

SMOKING
A non-smoking policy applies inside the ship. Smoking is only allowed out on the open decks. Please note that it is strictly forbidden to throw cigarettes over board.

TIPPING
Gratuities are included in the price of the trip.

WATER
The water on board is safe to drink.
