Greenland 2021 with M/V Balto
For more than 20 years we have taken adventure-seeking travellers to the remote and incredible polar regions. We are proud to announce the launch of a new and unique premium 12-passenger expedition ship in 2021 – M/V Balto! She will sail along Greenland’s spectacular coast and has been refitted to one of the most elegant small expedition ships.
This unique 12-passenger ship offer a completely different and much more intimate experience in Greenland compared to a larger expedition ship. She is designed to explore the most remote fjord systems, visit isolated Inuit settlements, find secret anchorages and maximise each guest’s experience in the unspoiled wilderness. With M/V Balto we can visit remote settlements, meet the welcoming people living here and in a personal way learn more about their fascinating culture. This is what we call true micro cruising.
GREENLAND - THE WORLD'S LARGEST ISLAND
Greenland’s spectacular and rugged coastline offers some of the most remarkable nature experiences. The Arctic landscape is dominated by ice-filled fjords, majestic peaks and tundra covered slopes. You can enjoy Zodiac cruises amongst icebergs in all shapes and sizes (up to 100 meters high!), admiring glistering glaciers, take a dip in a hot spring and head out on refreshing hikes with stunning views. Here you also find the world’s largest fjord system, the largest ice cap in the northern hemisphere and the world’s northernmost National Park - a vast Arctic paradise.
Greenland’s wildlife is rich and diverse, including whales, Arctic foxes, seals, polar bears and the iconic musk ox. This is also a great destination to observe the magical Northern Lights. From the end of August, you have chance to see the green light dancing in the sky. An essential part of the Greenlandic experience is to meet the welcoming locals and learn more about their fascinating culture and way of life in this remote and isolated corner of the world.

WE CARBON OFFSET ALL OUR TRIPS
Sustainability is at the heart of everything PolarQuest does, we always travel in small groups and strive to have minimal impact on the environment. As operators of expedition cruises, we cannot avoid emitting greenhouse gases during a voyage. Until renewable fuels are available in our line of business, we have chosen to climate compensate (carbon offset) all our trips. Our goal is to over-compensate every year, to slowly pay back to mother earth for emissions made back in time.
The ship M/V Balto
We are proud to present our latest addition to our fleet of small expedition ships, MV Balto, named after the leading sled dogs of 1925 Nome serum run. She is a vessel of highest ice class (1-A) and was built in Rauma Finland to serve as a government service vessel in the Baltic sea. In 2019-2020, she has been totally refurbished and is now one of the roomiest and most elegant small polar expedition yachts in service. M/V Balto offers a relaxed luxury accommodation for 12 guests in 7 outside cabins, all with private facilities and lower beds. The spacious cabins include 1 Owner’s suite, 1 suite, 3 double cabins and 2 single cabins. The Owner’s is 30m2, has 6 windows and a queen bed, the suite has two twin beds while the double cabins has a queen bed. The suites also offer a separate seating area. In the cabins you find a desk with a chair and closet for storage.
On the guest deck you also find a cider lined sauna, accommodating 4-6 persons, with a cold shower and a small changing room. The richly appointed saloon and the beautiful dining messroom feature crotch-mahogany panelling, a bar, a card table, a library, coffee and tea stations and a cast iron stove.
She is fitted with a large restaurant style open galley, where you can check on the marvels of our chefs and sample freshly baked bread. There are several open and semi enclosed deck spaces from where you can enjoy the stunning Arctic sceneries. You are welcomed by an international crew and the bridge is open for visitors. The ship has been fitted with an electric diesel propulsion capable of maintaining versatile manoeuvring and survey speeds with no vibration. It is also ideal as film and photo platform. There is also a mud room for expedition gear and 2 Zodiacs for wilderness cruises and offshore experiences. M/V balto is truly one of a kind when it comes to small polar expedition ships.
