North of Nordaustland & further North!
We had finally reached the pack ice! The colours were breathtaking with their complex simplicity, covering every shade of blue, grey and white. In the Zodiacs we pushed and crushed our way through the ice. A bearded seal looked up on us while we passed by in total silence. Aware of our own smallness, we felt as one with the Arctic. We made a landing on an ice floe to take a group photo. We all wished we could make this moment last forever. What a day in the Arctic!

Karl XII Island & Kvitøya
Karl XII Island is one of the most remote and exposed island in the Svalbard archipelago and is a popular haunt for polar bears. To our joy the Arctic mist and cold winds had left us and a blue sky and a vivid bird cliff welcomed us. Puffins flew over our heads and Glaucus gulls were home in their nests. Later we made a landing with walruses spying on us from the water. We were happy to have completed a circumnavigatation of Karl XII Island!

Since 1999, we have taken travellers on once-in-a-lifetime trips to Svalbard. From May to September our three small expedition ships, carrying only 12 and 50 passengers, explore this magnificent Arctic archipelago. Unpredictability and flexibility are the main keywords when you travel with PolarQuest as the exact route depends on weather, ice conditions and wildlife encounters. Sometimes you might be woken up in the middle of the night if a polar bear has been spotted on the ice.
