Northeast Greenland 2014
PolarQuest´s guides have sent a report from the expedition “Northeast Greenland and Iceland” on board Ocean Nova, 27th August – 9th September. It seems as they have had a really good time this far!
All is well on board Ocean Nova, everyone is having a lovely time and enjoying the wonders and spectacular scenery of Northeast Greenland. We made really good time over the Denmark Strait with a very comfortable sea which everyone liked! This gave us an extra day up our sleeves in the Keyser Frans Joseph Fjord system. The first couple of days there was some rain but that didn't dampen any spirits. We had some wonderful encounters with Muskox and Arctic Hare on most of our landings. Fresh snow dusted the mountain tops and thick bands of clouds obscured our views of the peaks but it was magical and beautiful.
Yesterday we spent the afternoon at Ittoqqortoormitt which everyone really enjoyed and the weather was good to us. Then in the evening we cruised into Scoresbysund passing huge icebergs draped in evening light. The grand finale was at midnight when we were blessed with the Northern Lights, it danced across the sky like an Arctic fox scampering across the snow. It was a real treat for all! We have now just got back from a fantastic Zodiac Cruise around Röde Ö and the iceberg park, under blue skies and sunshine…. Wow wow wow… now cruising to Harefjord for a landing and then a BBQ dinner. What an amazing place to be!
