What a first day of the trip!
What a first day of the trip! The Magdalenefjord a gorgeous view itself and on the shoreline the charming Walruses welcomed us.
During afternoon history stood on the schedule. We visited Smeerenburg, the Dutch " blubbertown " and listened to the whaling history that began here in the early 17thcentury! And of course we could not leave out Virgohamna were A.S. Andrée attempt to reach the North Pole by balloon 120 years ago!
But the adventure was far from over! Just before the dinner we spot a polar bear on his hike along the shoreline.
Since 1999, we have taken travellers on once-in-a-lifetime trips to Svalbard. From May to September our three small expedition ships, carrying only 12 and 51 passengers, explore this magnificent Arctic archipelago. Unpredictability and flexibility are the main keywords when you travel with PolarQuest as the exact route depends on weather, ice conditions and wildlife encounters. Sometimes you might be woken up in the middle of the night if a polar bear has been spotted on the ice.
