Matt Cheok

Guide

Matt is an adventure photographer and videographer from Sydney, Australia. His photography reflects an interest in remote landscapes, wildlife and the human stories found in unique environments. He also works as a General Naturalist Guide.

He works in expedition travel, particularly in the polar regions of Antarctica, Svalbard and Greenland, and also leads small group trips through Central Asia and southern Africa. As a photo educator and image maker, Matt enjoys sharing practical photography skills and helping travellers see and capture the world with greater confidence and intention.

Before moving into expedition travel, Matt worked as a commercial and insurance lawyer in Sydney. These days, he prefers life outdoors, spending his time camping, thru hiking and fuelling long days with strong Bialetti coffee. Most recently, he has been photographing orangutans in the jungles of northern Sumatra. You can usually find Matt out on deck with cameras in hand. Feel free to approach him for photography guidance or a friendly chat.

Over the years, the Arctic has had a strong influence on Alexander. He is fascinated by the landscape, but even more by all the small stories that are connected to it, the way people have lived, adapted, and found ways to exist in these environments long before modern technology. That’s something he keep noticing and appreciating more the longer he spend in the north.
