Bo Landin
Special lecturer
Experiencing Svalbard alongside someone who has devoted his life to exploring and portraying the forces of nature adds an extra dimension to the expedition. On one of our Svalbard trips in autumn 2026, we are delighted to welcome Bo Landin on board as a guest lecturer. Bo is a rrenowned and award winning Swedish wildlife filmmaker, author and science journalist with unique experience of the Arctic and some of the world’s most spectacular landscapes.
Bo Landin holds a B.Sc. degree in biological, environmental sciences at University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He has, for several decades, worked as an author, film producer, director and science journalist. For more than 40 years he has been based in Utah, USA, and has produced close to one hundred international natural history and science documentaries for some of the world’s leading television broadcasters. His films have received numerous international awards and have contributed to raising awareness of important environmental and conservation issues around the world.
In 1976 Landin set up and run as its executive producer the weekly environmental program for Swedish Television (SVT) and presented the acclaimed show for several years. His films, especially on environmental and science themes, became early benchmarks for European and world filmmaking in this field. Films from this period include Prix Italia winner Arctic Tragedy, and he has produced several films for many major international broadcasters, such as Discovery, National Geographic Channel and the BBC, about wildlife in the Arctic and Antarctica.
Many people in Sweden recognise Bo Landin from Swedish television (TV4), where he was involved from the very beginning as TV host and producer of the acclaimed programme Naturen (the nature), which became one of the channel’s most appreciated factual programmes during its twelve year run.
Over the years, Bo has participated in several scientific expeditions in both the Arctic and Antarctica and has undertaken his own filming journeys to places including Greenland, Iceland, Svalbard and the Russian Kola Peninsula. His work has focused on subjects such as ecology, geology, volcanoes and cultural history, always with nature’s stories at its heart.
As an author, Bo Landin has also received wide recognition and several prestigious awards. Among other honours, he has been awarded the Rosén Prize for the year’s best popular science presentation by the Swedish Council for Planning and Coordination of Research. For his later books on water and climate issues, he was also awarded the Selma Lagerlöf Scholarship and named Värmland Author of the Year.
With his extensive knowledge, passion for storytelling and long experience of the polar regions, we look forward to inspiring lectures and conversations on board during our Svalbard expedition.

Bo Landin is well known as a wildlife filmmaker and environmental journalist, so well known that it sometimes overshadows his work as an author. His latest book, Footprints, is both a beautiful and thought provoking testimony to how we all affect our planet. Guided by the motto “Keep your boots muddy!”, he has followed in the footsteps of Carl Linnaeus and Rolf Edberg while finding his own deeply engaged voice as a writer.
