A first report from Svalbard!
Our guides are blogging from the expedition “Svalbard with Lofoten & Bear Island” with Sea Endurance.
20th of May 2015
We have had absolutely amazing trip so far! The first night we went into old swell from the north but it only lasted for a few hours. In the morning we hiked around Vaæroy and Åå. Nusfjord offered sun and we some saw killer whales from the lighthouse. Trollfjorden lay glistening in sunshine and during the evening we saw a sperm whale on the horizon.
At Bear Island we did a Zodiac cruise before breakfast, a landing after and then we managed another boat cruise before dinner. We are currently in Svalbard! Yesterday we cruised into the ice, east of Sørkapp and saw a walrus at a distance. We were also incredibly lucky to see a blue whal when we turned west to round the ice. This afternoon we cruised from Krossfjorden into 14th July Bay. King Eider, puffin, Arctic fox, bearded seal, walrus and Svalbard reindeer. We are now sailing towards the northwestern corner in beautiful sunshine!

Since 1999, we have taken travellers on once-in-a-lifetime trips to Svalbard. From May to September our three small expedition ships, carrying only 12 and 50 passengers, explore this magnificent Arctic archipelago. Unpredictability and flexibility are the main keywords when you travel with PolarQuest as the exact route depends on weather, ice conditions and wildlife encounters. Sometimes you might be woken up in the middle of the night if a polar bear has been spotted on the ice.

Travelling through the stunning Norwegian coastal landscape on a small expedition cruise ship is simply hard to beat. Lofoten islands welcome with picturesque fishing villages, squeezed between soaring mountains and quiet fjords. In wintertime Tromsø offers magnificent sceneries over dramatic landscapes and great chances to spot both orcas and humpback whales. If we’re lucky we will also see the magical Northern Lights dancing in the sky. Join us on an unforgettable cruise!
