The day started with a fantastic morning at the Kongsbreen glacier and its magnificent surroundings. The water in front of the glacier ice was mirror-like and the sun shone its brightest.
The three mountain peaks Svea, Nora and Dana, which together form the mountain massif Tre Kroner, showed a magnificent background as we approached the glacier.

Our ship M/S Stockholm, just turned 70 years old, glided unhindered between the ice floes. To be able to be here in this wilderness, on a small expedition ship carrying a maximum of only 12 passengers, is a real privilege.
When we silently stuffed our minds full of images and impressions, it was time to head towards Ny-Ålesund where we would go ashore and get some exercise. Museum, shopping and sending postcards were on the schedule, as well as a walk to the tower where Amundsen's and Nobile's giant airship was anchored before heading to the North Pole.

However, we were hindered before we arrived, in the calm water just outside the harbor there was a flock of minke whales that decided to have dinner. They swam around the boat opening their mouths widely to stop as much plankton and small fish as they could. Suddenly we were not in such a hurry to get ashore, we kept the whales company for a while before leaving them in peace to continue with dessert.
Another one of all the amazing moments up here in Svalbard was checked off.
Please note: Depending on the lens used for a photo or video shot an animal may appear to be closer than it is. We always follow strict wildlife guidelines to ensure that we do not cause any disturbance.
