Days in the pack ice

Our guide Beau Pruneau shares some memorable moments from one of this year's late-season Svalbard expeditions – a voyage with a special focus on the pack ice and its its wildlife.

Another expedition done and dusted.

A 10 day, late August/early September expedition.

A pack ice special.

Not a standard expedition, but one that works quite well this time of year.

Incredible light.

Pack ice and sunsets.

Lots of pack ice.

We spent 3 full days and 2 full nights in the pack ice far north of Svalbard. Deep in the pack ice.

We did encounter fog.

But also beauty. And wildlife adapted to the ice. Bowhead whales, harp seals, ivory gulls, and yes, the mighty polar bear.

We experienced an incredible amount of wildlife overall, beautiful soft light, tundra hikes, and above all, camaderie and friendship.

It's what keeps us all coming back.

Please note: Depending on the lens used for a photo or video shot an animal may appear to be closer than it is. We always follow strict wildlife guidelines to ensure that we do not cause any disturbance.
